Ben Franklin PTO Committees 2016-2017

Night Off Cooking – Monthly/All year. The committee will set up a monthly fundraising night at a local restaurant. They will distribute flyers via email/backpack, collect money raised from the restaurant and submit to the treasurer.
Boxtops for Education – All year. The committee is responsible for encouraging collection, counting, and submitting boxtops.
Landscaping – All year. The committee will tend the landscaped areas around the school. Pulling weeds and replanting flowers where necessary.
Third Grade Yearbook – All year. The committee of third grade parents will work with the yearbook company to plan and prepare a yearbook to be given to each outgoing third grader at the end of the year. They will work with third graders, parents and staff and report to the PTO board.
After School Clubs – Fall and Spring sessions. The committee will work with the staff to create a variety of clubs to be offered to students at the end of the school day. They will promote the clubs and collect registrations.
Teacher Appreciation – Four events by grade In November, kindergarten parents are needed to help provide a luncheon for the faculty and staff. In January, first grade parents are needed for a hot breakfast for the faculty and staff. In March, second grade parents will provide a grab and go snack for the faculty and staff. In May, third grade parents will serve lunch on National Teacher Appreciation Day.
Ice Cream Social – September. The committee will need lots of volunteers to help set up, serve and top the ice cream, and clean up at this fun event.
BF Spirit Wear Apparel – September/October. The committee will communicate with the PTO board and the supply company. They will collect orders and tally orders from families and place the school order with the supply company. Then upon receipt of the order, they will distribute the product to the families.
Original Artwork – October/November. The committee will coordinate this favorite gift giving fundraiser. They will send out, collect and submit order forms. Then distribute orders on arrival.
Fall Fest Sale – October. The committee will solicit yard sale and professional vendors/crafters, donations, organize activities, and publicize this Saturday (8 AM to 2 PM) morning event.
Healthy Kids’ Fun Run – October. This event will take place during the Fall Fest. The committee will solicit sponsors and develop a fun Saturday morning event that focuses on physical activity.
Math Carnival – October. The committee will coordinate with staff to create lots of math related activities for students. Lots of volunteers will be needed to help run the activities at this fun and educational evening.
Book Fair – November/ April. Book Fairs are held twice each year and coincide with parent-teacher conferences. Volunteers will be needed during both fairs to assist the committee with set-up, customer service, and tear down.
Kids Holiday Gift Shop & Parent Vendor Boutique – December. The committee will stock and organize a gift shop at Ben Franklin for children to purchase holiday gifts. Lots of volunteers will be needed to help sell and gift wrap the children’s purchases. The PTO will also solicit a group of professional vendors for parent shoppers.
Movie Night – January. The committee will choose a movie to show at Ben Franklin, advertise the event, and set up a concession stand.
Parents Night Out – January. The committee will need volunteers to solicit donations for raffles, auctions and teacher experiences, serve refreshments, and help set up and cleanup.
Book Exchange – February. The committee will need volunteers to help set up and organize books, assist children in choosing appropriate books, and cleaning up from this great free daytime event.
Science Night – March. The committee will coordinate with staff to create lots of science related activities for students. Lots of volunteers will be needed to help run the activities at this fun and educational evening.
Aspiring Author Night – April. The committee will organize a night for children and adults to share original work or read someone else’s writing. They will solicit staff and community members to read to the children.
Dance Party – May. The committee will find a DJ, advertise this event, and organize refreshments at this fun evening event.
Trenton Thunder – Between April and June. The committee will liaise with the Trenton Thunder to organize a Ben Franklin Day. They will get tickets, make up flyers to sell tickets, and collect orders and money.
Memorial Day – May. The committee will work with staff to encourage families to march in the Memorial Day parade. An art project is frequently done in the week prior to the parade. Refreshments need to be provided at the end of the parade.
Third Grade Party – June. Third grade parents are needed to plan and execute an end of year party for the outgoing third grade class. The co-chairs will liaise with the PTO board and the third grade staff.
Family Picnic – June. The committee will organize and promote an outdoor playdate on the Ben Fanklin playground. Involves contact moonbounce vendors.
